Basil salt
This delicious basil salt is perfect for seasoning your Italian-inspired dishes! It has wonderful flavor and about 40% less sodium than regular kosher salt.

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, (tightly packed)
  • 1 cup kosher salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 225°F.
  • Place the basil and salt in a food processor and pulse a few times.
    1 cup fresh basil leaves, 1 cup kosher salt
  • Spread the mixture on an ungreased baking sheet as evenly as possible, then place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and scrape with a spatula to break up any clumps.
  • Mix, then spread into an even layer before placing the salt back in the oven to bake another 15 minutes until dry, but not brown.

Notes

This recipe makes 72 servings of basil salt. Each serving is 1 teaspoon.
For a finer grain, pulse the salt in the food processor again after it cools.
This herb seasoning can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature. For maximum flavor, use within 3 months.
