This delicious basil salt is perfect for seasoning your Italian-inspired dishes! It has wonderful flavor and about 40% less sodium than regular kosher salt.

How to make basil salt
It’s so easy to make your own herb salt! And the only ingredients you need are basil and salt.
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 225°F.
Step 2: Place the basil and salt in a food processor and pulse a few times.
Step 3: Spread the mixture on an ungreased baking sheet as evenly as possible, then place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
Step 4: Remove from the oven and scrape with a spatula to break up any clumps.
Step 5: Mix, then spread into an even layer before placing the salt back in the oven to bake another 15 minutes until dry, but not brown.
Make sure to let your salt cool before you use it. If you’d like a finer texture, you can pulse it again in a food processor after it has cooled.
Ways to use basil salt
Now that you have a delicious basil and salt mixture, how should you use it? I can think of quite a few ways!
For a simple snack, I love to sprinkle it on summer tomatoes. It’s also wonderful tossed with watermelon or cantaloupe chunks.
Cooking with root vegetables instead? Try rubbing your salt on the outside of potatoes before baking or grilling. You can also add it to mashed potatoes, mashed cauliflower, or sweet potatoes!
If you’re looking for some breakfast inspiration, try using some herb salt in your scrambled eggs or omelet. You could also dust it on a Bloody Mary!
Try combining it with butter to top your steak or to spread on corn on the cob, or use it to salt the cooking water for your pasta. There is truly no end to what you can make with basil-infused salt!
Because salt is a natural preservative, this mixture should last you for quite a while. Simply store it in an airtight container in your spice rack or pantry and use it whenever you need!
For maximum flavor, I recommend using within 3 months or so.
