Diabetes

Diabetes is a term that covers a number of diseases that involve how your body uses glucose (sugar) and problems with the hormone insulin. Types of diabetes include:

• Type 1 diabetes 
• Type 2 diabetes
• Prediabetes
• Gestational diabetes
• LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults)
• MODY (Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young)

Diabetes can occur when the pancreas produces very little or no insulin, or when the body develops insulin resistance. There is currently no cure for any of the types of diabetes, but the conditions can be managed to various degrees with a combination of medication and lifestyle changes.
