On the keto diet and craving a chocolatey treat? Look no further than these Chocolate Keto Fat Bombs! They’re packed with five sources of healthy fat and contain only 2 grams of net carbs per serving.
Is there anything better than a chocolate treat that tastes amazing and fully complies with your diet?
You’ll be happy to know there are plenty of ways to satisfy your chocolate cravings on the keto diet without eating a high-carb, high-sugar dessert that kicks you out of ketosis.
One of those ways is by making a batch of these yummy Chocolate Keto Fat Bombs. These things are seriously delicious and will stop a chocolate craving dead in its tracks!
What are keto fat bombs?
If you’re wondering why they’re called “keto fat bombs,” it’s because they deliver a “bomb” of healthy fats to keep you both fully compliant with the keto diet and satisfied until your next meal. They are convenient high-fat, low-carb, low-protein snacks that you can bring anywhere.
Each fat bomb contains 18 grams of fat thanks to:
- Chunky peanut butter
- Shelled hemp seeds
- Unrefined coconut oil
- Heavy cream
- Shredded coconut flakes
Yep, they have five different sources of fat. The rest of the flavor is provided by:
- Cacao or cocoa powder (to deliver that intense chocolate flavor!)
- Vanilla extract (to enhance the flavor)
- Stevia (to sweeten the fat bombs)
What’s the difference between cacao powder and cocoa powder?
In these Chocolate Keto Fat Bombs, you can use either cacao powder or cocoa powder. What’s the difference?
Cacao powder is less refined than cocoa powder. Cocoa powder is made from dried and roasted cocoa beans, whereas cacao powder is made at very low temperatures. It is believed that cacao powder has more antioxidants than cocoa powder because it’s processed at such low temperatures.
From a taste standpoint, cacao powder and cocoa powder taste a bit different. If you’ve never tried cacao powder before, give it a try and see if you like the flavor. If not, cocoa powder it is!
How to make chocolate keto fat bombs
It’s incredibly easy! All you need is a bowl, a tray with parchment paper, and your freezer or fridge.
You can see how I make the fat bombs in this short video or read the step-by-step instructions below:
Step 1: Start by mixing cocoa powder, peanut butter, and hemp seeds in a large bowl.
Step 2: Add room temperature coconut oil and mix until it becomes a paste. Then add cream, vanilla, and stevia and mix until it becomes a paste again.
Step 3: Use your hands to roll the paste into 12 balls.
Tip: if the paste is too thin to roll (like in the image above), put it in the fridge for 30 minutes before rolling to give it the right consistency (like in the image below).
Step 4: Roll the balls in shredded coconut (the coconut is included in the nutrition facts, but it’s optional if you are not a fan). Place the balls on parchment paper on a baking tray.
Step 5: Freeze for 10 minutes before serving. You can also just put them in the fridge for at least 30 minutes instead.
How many carbs are in a serving?
This recipe makes 12 individual fat bombs. Each serving contains 3.5 grams of carbs and 1.5 grams of fiber, leaving you with 2 grams of net carbs per serving.
You can eat chocolate keto fat bombs:
- As a snack between meals
- As a pre-workout snack
- For breakfast (no judgment here!)
- As a dessert
How to store keto fat bombs
Because this fat bomb recipe contains heavy cream and isn’t cooked, you’ll need to store the fat bombs in the fridge or freezer. Once you taste their awesome flavor, I don’t think you’ll mind!
I hope you enjoy this recipe for Chocolate Keto Fat Bombs. It’s a great recipe to satisfy your chocolate cravings and increase your fat intake for the day without kicking you out of ketosis. Plus, they’re super easy to make!

These are delicious. My whole family loves them. I refrigerate the ‘dough’ until it hardens up a bit before rolling in the coconut. It’s in our keeper file now!
I have had type 2 diabetes for about 12 years now. From start of diabetes to now I’ve lost 130lbs. 30lbs since the Keto diet. I tried these for my chocolate fix. They turned out almost like yours. I used half and half. Out of heavy cream. I would suggest to everyone 1 tblsp at a time. These worked out well for my fix. I used cocoa. Didn’t have the cacoa yet. Will purchase it to try. Thanks for the recipe. Thanks to the keto diet and some exercise I’m no longer on any medication. Last A1C 6.8 and blood checks range between 82 and 134. In the last couple of months.
I made them and followed the recipe step by step I think I may have just put a little to much oil. I’m still freezing and going to try them. It looks more like a cookie. It will still work as a bomb right ? Also how many carbs for every 2 ?
Unless you added additional oil the macros should be the same. Doesn’t really matter if it looks like a ball or a cookie, but annoying that it didn’t come out as expected. If you make 6 bombs per batch each has 7.1 g carbohydrates (you can see the exact nutrition in the bottom of the recipe)
hi! i was wondering if there would be a replacement that i could use for the coconut oil? i was wondering if olive oil would work, but im too afraid to try it!
The taste might be a bit much. From a consistency standpoint, it should work but I’m not sure about the taste. Another option could be sesame oil or something else which has a less flavorful taste
Grapessed oil has no taste.
Is it possible not to use the hemp seeds? If so, how would I adjust the recipe?
If you skip the hemp seeds note that the macros and total calories will change but you can still make it work. If you’d like to add more crunch you could try and substitute the hemp seeds with 3-4 TBSP flaxseeds
My husband is diabetic, i am not, but don’t eat cane sugar or processed foods anyway. Stevia is the main sweetener, with honey or maple syrup being occasionally. We strive for lower carbs. Lots of fruits, veggies, beans fiber rich things and lots of exercise.
I have a diabetic friendly cookie more like a protein cookie that uses chia seeds, flax seeds, oats, dried fruits, assorted nuts, coconut oil, stevia for sweetening. Eggs, pumpkin puree, banana, or peanut butter as binders. They don’t rise. They disappear every time.
The fats in the cocoa ball fat bombs, how much will this affect low density lipids?
Would you share your recipe?
These look amazing! Mine however did not. I do not know where I went wrong, but they were like soup. Any suggestions on how to fix this? They taste great. I’m sure I messed up some where or bought the wrong seeds. Are they supposed to be ground?
Hm, that’s unfortunate. Soupy keto bombs do not sound right. The hemp seeds shouldn’t be ground. You can see what the ingredients look like the picture in the post, did yours look the same?
Given the consistency, I think your cream or coconut oil portion might have been too large. If you know you measured them out correctly you could try and dial the cream and/or oil back a bit. Let me know if you still get soup
I’m confused on what heavy cream is?
It’s a high fat kind of dairy, some call it whipping cream
Hey! For future readers, mine tends to be soupy too. I stick it in the freezer for ten minutes and it’s good to go. I used coconut cream in place of heavy cream and skipped the stevia and they still taste AMAZING! Thank you for this recipe!
Hi Ariel,
I’m currently new to Keto and craving a sweet fix. Came across your recipe and eager to try it. In regards to the hemp seed, does it need to be shelled? Or can it be in shelled. 🙂
Thanks
That shouldn’t be an issue. The macros might shift a little, and some people don’t enjoy the shell, but aside from that you should be fine
Is it possible to either omit or do a substitution for the heavy cream? If I bought heavy cream, it would just be for this recipe.
By the way, I really like your website. I’m not diabetic but I love how many of your meat recipes incorporate some vegetables in them (ie. your turkey meatball recipe).
You can try using half-and-half instead. I haven’t tried it, but I imagine it would work. You can also try with plain milk, but if you do that, you may have to change the amount you use to get the right consistency.
These are AMAZING! My husband and I are pretty new to Keto and these are our go to treats. I keep reading other fat bombs recipes, but these are the only ones I have made, repeatedly! Thank you!
