Sometimes you just want something a little creamy and spicy!

Chips and 7 layer dip have always been my “got to” in that department, but if you are watching your carb intake… well, I don’t need to tell you but “ouch!” that combo really packs in a lot of carbs! So I needed a low carb alternative – and these spicy jalapeno ham roll ups were the answer!

Four ingredients, 5 minutes to make and something I can make ahead and stash in the refrigerator – a win-win-win if I do say so myself!

Plus, these little ham roll ups travel well so they are perfect for taking on the road or to a party!

How to make spicy jalapeno ham roll ups

Step 1: Lay the ham slices out on a cutting board. Blot dry with a paper towel.

Step 2: Let the cream cheese come to room temperature and spread 2 tablespoons on each piece of sliced ham. Sprinkle with cumin and top with the chiles.

Step 3: Starting at the short end, roll the ham up jelly-roll style, pressing as you go.

Step 4: Refrigerate the rolls for about 30 minutes so the cream cheese has a chance to firm up before cutting the roll into bite-sized pieces!

Tips for making great roll ups

Since the ingredient list is so short, ingredients matter! Use a high quality sliced ham. Have the deli slice it on the thicker size – thinner slices make spreading the cream cheese and rolling challenging!

I used canned jalapenos but if those are a bit “too spicy” for you, feel free to use milder green chiles.

I love cumin so I sprinkled cumin on the cream cheese. If you aren’t a fan, you can just leave the cumin out (or use another spice or herb. Fresh basil works great as well.)

Storing the roll ups

If not eating right away, wrap in the roll in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for 1-2 days.
